Mechanical and Aesthetic Evolution… Fairlady Z 300ZX & Uchida Drawing Sharp KN (1980s)

A short entry… Just as I will always love the original Datsun Fairlady Z and Uchida Drawing Sharp E, I also appreciate the following generation of designs that carried over key aspects of the original DNA while making changes and improvements.

In this case, Nissan updated the classic euro-inspired design with a sleeker, more angular and futuristic silhouette, most notably in the ‘hooded eyes’ look of the pop-up headlights. I always felt the Z31 looked sexier because of those lights  Performance also leaped from 2.4L inline-6 and ~150 hp to 3.0L V6 and up to 200+ hp turbocharged.

And for Uchida, what I considered the pinnacle of continuous-twist fine-lead drafting in the Drawing Sharp E of the 1970s also evolved (gave way?) to the Drawing Sharp KN with its de rigueur knock-advance mechanism. I am grateful that they at least tried to retain some of the looks that so defined Uchida’s line-up.

This Uchida is famous piece. I need KN type. Does anybody have a spare piece? Blue or red in NOS conditions? :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Here’s a gorgeous red 300ZR T-top variant to go with an equally red Drawing Sharp KN :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

This time, the miniature car is by KYOSHO in 1/64 scale, more of a display model than a playable toy. I picked it because I wanted to match the Fairlady as shown on that heavenly Japlish ‘SOUL SYNCHRO MACHINE’ metal pen case… Did I pick right?

There you go again with a car featured on a stationery item. It boggles my mind.

So the trick is… find the pen case (randomly) first! Then try and find the car
