It’s just a question of how bad the damage will be.
It took me religiously scouring Mercari every day since September 1, but a pristine stainless steel + “copper” Mitsubishi double-knock has finally revealed itself

It’s really heading up there… Now over 65k JPY ($500 USD) as of 8:30am EST and not stopping. Doesn’t look like the bid war is with any proxy services, as their auction feedback numbers are low.

Afraid this might cost me $200 more if I want to go all the way.
Also lost the Heart Sutra Pilot earlier (with a lazy bid because there were only 3 watchers), so I’m pissed about that.
Hard to say… but 2-f-4? I’ve seen them bid a lot lately and they’ve got deep pockets.

Five Platinum body-knocks in there… I missed that earlier. This is one heck of a lot, all things considered. Seller was so remiss not to break this up into smaller auctions. I wonder if it’ll break $800 USD?

Oh right… I didn’t realize they were called “Heart Sutra,” the kanji lettering motif. Yes, those usually go sky high, especially the fountain pens.
Oh yes, so there’s 2 Mitsubishi double-knocks in that rare dark red color… is that what you’re calling copper?

Yeah, the lighting on this lot is historically bad—those double-knocks are brilliant in good lighting.
There’s a third one that’s rotated a bit (a few spots to the left); each of them has a price sticker and looks to be in great condition.

Oh, right… Yeah, I see it now. How so sloppy of that seller. Couldn’t even be bothered to make sure all pencils of the same brand/model grouped together. At least they did it for a few of them.
Frankly, I didn’t even know that color existed. I thought there was just black and silver. Are there other colors too, aside from the dark red?

Whew. I broke the other guy.
Normally, I’d have to take my kids to school and would have missed out on this one. But today, I’m home to meet a guy who’s filling up our propane, so I was able to ensure the victory.
And all this because I was too stupid to pay ¥5500 for a copper double-knock in 2021
